Getting a Library Card

Anyone four years and older may obtain a library card at no charge. Application must be made in person and proof of identity is required for patrons over the age of 18. Cards for patrons under the age of 18 must be attached to an adult card. 

Acceptable Forms of Identification 

  • Driver's License

  • Passport

  • Student ID

  • Government Issued ID (e.g. Military)

 

Staff should be notified immediately in the event of a lost or stolen cards. Replacement cards are $2.00. Replacement cards will not be issued to patrons with lost items or outstanding fees.

Renewing a Library Card

Library Cards expire every year. Cards may be renewed in person at FCML or by calling 205-932-6625. 

Borrowing Materials

  • Patrons may check out up to six items at a time.

  • Patrons must present library card to check out materials.

  • All Discovery Kits, Fitness Kits, DVDs, and DVD Binge Boxes must be checked out on an adult card.

  • Books and audio books may be placed on reserve by patrons in good standing.

  • Borrowing periods are also follows:​

    • Books & Audio Books                         2 weeks, renewable twice

    • Discovery Kits & Fitness Kits            3 weeks, non-renewable

    • DVDs                                                    5 days, non-renewable 

    • DVD Binge Boxes                                7 days, non-renewable                        

    • Newspapers                                        Library Use Only

    • Genealogy                                           Library Use Only

Renewing Materials

  • FCML offers automatic renewals for patrons.

  • Eligible items (books and audio books not on hold) will automatically renew up to 2 times.

  • Items will renew two days prior to the due date. You will receive an email notification that will inform you if your items were successfully renewed. You can also check your library account online or contact the Library.

Returning Materials

Items may be returned during the Library's operating hours to the front desk. A drop box is located on the Temple Avenue side of the building for returning materials. ​

 

Returning Materials Late 

Fayette County Memorial Library does not charge fines for overdue materials. Materials should still be returned on or before the due date. Any item not returned 14 days after its due date is considered lost, blocking accounts from check-out and subjecting patrons to lost fees. Once any item considered lost is found and returned, accounts are restored and fees erased.
